Harmonia Sacra

Harmonia Sacra

Created in 2002 by Yannick Lemaire, its artistic director, Harmonia Sacra - Baroque music ensemble from Valenciennes - mainly explores the sacred repertoire of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The ensemble's size adapts to the works it covers as well as its atypical performing network (from a national scene to a particular house).

Each program aims to allow the singers and instrumentalists of the ensemble to share with the public unaccustomed to this repertoire the fruit of their artistic companionship and their demanding musical research.

This human and musical ambition gives meaning and cohesion to all the projects of the ensemble. Yannick Lemaire and Loris Barrucand share the musical direction of Harmonia Sacra since 2018.

Laudate Dominum - Score Cover

Laudate Dominum

Laudate Dominum is a Christmas carol that starts with the psalm 130, De profundis, which is sung for the second vespers of Christmas, and expresses the cry of the Christ, descended on earth, to his Father. It is followed by a tenor aria with some lyrics from the Gospel of Luke (2, 10), when the angel comes to announce the birth of Jesus. It is finally concluded by a very long fugue on the Psalm 117, Laudate Dominum Omnes Gentes, used as an antiphon during the Christmas liturgical time.
