Mưa Tháng Giêng – Trần Thu Hà

TếtVietnamese New YearVietnamese Lunar New Year or Tet Holiday, is the most important celebration in Vietnamese culture. The word is a shortened form of Tết Nguyên Đán (節元旦), which is Sino-Vietnamese for “Feast of the First Morning of the First Day”. Tết celebrates the arrival of spring based on the Vietnamese calendar, which usually has the date falling in January or February in the Gregorian calendar.

As Tết is the only holiday time for many vietnamese people, members of the same family “về quê hương”, go back to ther homeland, gather and share very special moments, exchanging extended wishes of happiness, health and prosperity and red enveloppes containing lucky money.

The following video of a traditional folk song from the North with very nice photos shows beautifully the particular atmosphere of Tết.
